Pick your fighter: Washington Spirit’s Tara Rudd, Utah Royals’ Kate Del Fava or San Diego’s Perle Morroni? All of them could take the Defender of the Year ward home in the 2026 season.

If I’m casting a ballot today, it’s for Tara Rudd

According to ASA’s stats, Rudd is operating in a tier of her own. Her +0.83 indicates she’s consistently neutralizing dangerous attacks in leverage areas. And her other positive stats show she’s a complete, well-rounded centre-back.
