Me and my friend, both 21, went camping for 5 days near a river. We both needed some time away from civilization, so we decided it would be nice to go camping somewhere far from people. We got some fishing equipment, food, beers, tent and drove to a river far away from our home, to a place that looked to be quite far from any city or village on the map. A few hours after a nice drive, we turned onto a dirt road and found a really nice place to camp. After we built our tents and got all the stuff out of the car, we started fishing, talking about life, having fun, and even drinking a few beers. It was just what we both needed. We stayed up quite late. Not sure, but I think we went to sleep around 3 a.m. The next morning, I had a little hangover. I woke up a bit earlier than my friend, so I decided to prepare a nice breakfast. When he woke up, he didn't look well. I asked, "Everything okay?" He looked at me with an unsettling expression and said, "Yeah, I guess..." I knew something wasn't all right, so I tried to ask him more, but the only answer I got in the end was that he had a really bad nightmare. The day went quite normally after that, and my friend got better. It was still stressing him out, from what I could see, but he was getting better. We built a fire for the night and cooked a few fish that we had caught. During the night, we were running out of wood for the fire, so my friend decided to go get some. I wish I hadn't let him. While he was away getting wood, I just stared at the sky, enjoyed the quiet nature, and drank my beer. Minutes were passing by, and I started getting scared about where the fuck my friend was for so long. It had been 30 minutes. There was no way he was getting wood for that long. So I decided to call him, but of course, we were out of service. I grabbed my flashlight and went the way he had gone, shouting his name. Nothing. I walked for around an hour, but there was still nothing. Then I decided maybe he needed some time just for himself and had walked quite far away. I know it might sound stupid, but I had done it myself a few times. I would just wander far away without telling anyone, just to get some absolute freedom for myself. So I got back to camp, picked up some sticks on the way, and got the fire back to life. Two more hours passed and still nothing. I was getting really nervous and scared. So I went the way he had gone again, shouting his name. I got quite far, far enough that I got a signal on my phone. So I tried to call him. No one answered, but he had a signal. I walked a bit more and called again. Then I heard it. His phone ringing. It was far away, and I could tell which direction it was coming from, but I knew it was his ringtone. I shouted his name so many times. Nothing. I tried calling again, but I couldn't hear anything this time. I started almost crying. It was almost pitch black, and my best friend was missing. I knew I had to call the police, but I had zero idea where I was. I opened Maps and found that I was close to a road, so I went there to call the police and wait for them to find me. During the walk, I still tried to call my friend. I tried everything, but there were no answers. Then I saw it. Far away, between the trees, I saw a shadow. At first, I thought it was my friend, but then it moved and locked eyes with me. It was huge, at least 230 cm tall, but the scariest part was its eyes. Yellow, glowing eyes. I will never forget that look. I got to the road with uneasiness and called the police. After 30 minutes, they arrived. I told them everything: where I had heard the phone, where our camp was, everything. Well, except for what I had seen. They would have thought I was on drugs or something, and even I didn't know if it was real. They told me to go back to the camp in case he came back there and said that they would start looking for him. So I did. The walk was long, stressful, and quiet. I was praying that I would find my friend at our camp, but when I got there, noone was there. So I picked up some sticks again, revived the fire, and waited. For hours. Until the sun started to shine. Still nothing, and I was getting really tired. I decided to leave a note on his tent telling him to wake me up when he got back. Thanks to being tired as fuck, I fell asleep quite quickly. I had a nightmare. In the nightmare, I saw the tall, yellow-eyed creature stalking my friend as he was gathering wood. I tried to shout at him, but I couldn't make a sound. I could only watch as the creature slowly got closer to him. Then I saw my friend fall to the ground, and the creature approach him. Then I woke up, sweating like hell. I tried to calm myself down, telling myself that it was just a bad nightmare, that the eyes I saw were some animal, and that a bad angle had made the shadow look like a tall person. But I also realized that my friend had a nightmare the day before as well. Suddenly, I heard footsteps. I was excited to see my friend coming back, so I jumped out of the tent, only to see a policeman. He told me they had found my friend's phone and were now searching the area around it, even trying to get a helicopter involved. He also told me that I should stay at the camp in case my friend came back. Before he left, he searched my friend's tent. I guess he wanted to see if he had left a message or some kind of hint, but he told me he found nothing. Then he left, and I stayed like he said. The rest of the day went by without anything happening. I was depressed and just praying that my friend would come back at any moment. I went to the tent to sleep quite early. I had another nightmare, similar to the one from the day before. But in this one, I only saw my friend, alone in the dark, turned away from me. I called his name a few times, and then he slowly turned around. He looked at me with the same yellow, shining eyes as the creature had. Right after that terrifying look, I woke up with cold sweat all over me. I slowly got up, made some coffee, and looked inside my friend's tent, hoping he would be there. But of course, he wasn't. After breakfast, I decided to go on a little walk, get some service, and try to call the police to see if there were any updates. On the call, they told me that the dogs had found his scent close to the area where his phone was, but after some distance, it just vanished. I almost started yelling at the police, asking how something like that was even possible. They slowly calmed me down. I got back to the camp and caught some fish to eat, but I had zero appetite. I felt exhausted. Tired. Terrified. The day went by, and when the sun went down, I went to sleep. Another nightmare. Again, worse than the one before. I walked through the darkness, trying to find my friend. Suddenly, I started hearing him. "Help." "Find me." "Here." "Help." "Close." But the sounds were coming from all directions. Then suddenly, I saw him, again with his back turned to me. I called out, "Stop fucking with me and come back." He turned around, staring at me with those terrifying yellow eyes. Then there were eyes on the left as well. Above me. Below me. Everywhere. Everywhere around me were these terryfying glowing yellow eyes. I woke up sweating, unable to catch my breath. I looked at my phone. 5:30 a.m. Then I heard a sound, as if someone had moved inside my friend's tent. I got up and went there. And there he was, sleeping in his tent. |
