Hey everyone,

I’m currently preparing a build of my Godot game for a publishing platform, and since this is the very first time I might actually make some money with one of my games, it brings up a security/protection question I’ve been wondering about for a while.

You often hear about Godot .pck files being easily extracted back into source code or project assets. While I’m not super worried about someone stealing my specific code (it's nothing groundbreaking), I’m curious about where the industry standard is right now:

  • Is it standard practice nowadays to encrypt .pck files before publishing, or do most devs just leave them unencrypted?
  • How real or significant is the actual risk of players extracting and messing with .pck files in a real-world release?
  • If encryption is recommended, what is the best/most professional way to handle it without making life impossible for platforms or automated checks that need to review the build files?

Would love to hear how you guys handle this for your own releases!
