Technology didn’t create selfishness, but it has made selfish acts extraordinarily easy and almost inconsequential. It’s easier than ever to treat a friend as an audience, use a stranger for content, present a private moment as evidence, feed a human voice into a training set, and turn somebody else’s misfortune into afternoon entertainment.

Write to the people you love in your own voice, not OpenAI’s.

Does that mean the author of the article hates us?

If you use AI - if you’re excited about AI - be honest about it... Refusing to admit to it is cowardly behavior, and it says you’re ashamed of your workflow, jealous of writers who don’t use AI, and uncomfortable with your own choices... don’t be defensive and play games with people.

I keep a monthly-updated “How I AI” disclosure on my Substack About page for anyone to see.

Author both uses AI (IMO too much, as I had to crush 7 paragraphs into 2 above) but is one of the rare examples of people who don't protest too much about their desire to use it.
