The Trump administration is touting a $100 million aid package for Cuba, most of which is being distributed by Catholic Church charities.

But the aid is a drop in the bucket compared to the damage caused by U.S. sanctions and an oil blockade that has plunged the country into a humanitarian crisis.

In our latest video, Belly of the Beast journalist Yohan Rodríguez reports from Bejucal, a town on the outskirts of Havana, where residents welcomed the food kits but questioned the policies that made the aid necessary.

“We’ll make you effectively another colony of the USA and allow foreign investors to invade you, plunder your resources and economic potential for American tourists, while keeping the majority of your people in the same impoverished conditions you were before. We’ll commoditize and dilute your culture, because Latin cultures are inferior. We’ll just be replacing your leadership under the illusion of freedom, while taking away your universal healthcare and education, all in the name of ‘American values’.”
