I started this movie and was intrigued by the potential for a movie that explored the class struggle. Nobody in the movie could be considered a "good guy". The closest was the low intelligence cousin that just got wrapped up it things. The major thing I left the movie with was just anger at how it ended. It built all this class struggle stuff up just to end it like "lol aliens". It's like the ruling rich made this movie just to laugh at the people who would go see it. Maybe I am just jaded with the fucked up reality of capitalism but this movie left a serious bad taste in my mouth. |

eh, i think lanthimos' films are usually shallow in terms of meaning. sure, there are themes that are explored but it never gets very deep. he literally said in response to questions as to why he made certain choices: "because i thought it was funny". and i tend to believe him. now i am a fan of his stuff, bugonia however i did find to be a bit underwhelming. i enjoyed "kinds of kindness" a lot more. |

I just watched Marty Supreme and was similarly disenfranchised by a very hyped movie. |

It’s just a piece of art. It has provoked a reaction from you and in doing that has completed it’s job. Whether it resonates positively or negatively with you is moot. |

Curious why you think the ending reduces the rest of the social commentary? |

Disenchanted. Disenfranchised means it takes away your agency or ability. |

The violence felt too much for me. Acting was amazing but felt meh story wise. Even with great performances I never really cared for any of the characters. Should be mentioned it's a remake of a Korean film: |

Wondering the same. If anything, doesn't it even bring it to a further extreme, that the ruling class is so out of touch that they're literally aliens? |

Totally not my typical type of movie. I watched it because the cover art made me curious. I get what he was doing, but it definitely didn’t land with me. I just kept asking “why” to myself through the whole film and never got into it. Honestly felt the same about Poor Things from the same director. He’s got his thing and it’s not for me. |

Exactly. And that their solution to things not going the way they planned is to figuratively "nuke from orbit." It all felt very on the nose and satirical at the same time. OP must've been hoping for a documentary or something. |

To me the ending elevated it from a wacky dramedy to a direct indictment of the inhumane ruling class. I loved it. |

This is what I left with. Usually we say robots or lizard people, but Ms. Stone made an excellent case for alien. I also wasn’t thinking too hard, it was a fun ride and I wasn’t expecting much. |
