Context: The Massacre of Glencoe took place on February 13, 1692, in the Scottish Highlands. Government soldiers led by Captain Robert Campbell slaughtered 38 members and associates of Clan MacDonald after living among them as welcomed guests for nearly two weeks, an act that violated traditional Highland hospitality.
