A Mohegan Sun self-redemption coin machine charges a 10% fee to cash out your own coins. The screen reads: "There will be a 10% fee for this transaction."

The house always wins.

But seriously, I've never seen that at a casino. I haven't been to a ton, but I've been to quite a few.

I'm surprised they still use coins, the handful of casinos I have been to over the past 10 years have slot machines that take cash in, but only give vouchers out. You can still go to the cashier to cash out even small vouchers for free, but who wants to do that for a small amount, when you can just take it to another machine and see if you are "luckier"?

A well designed casino will siphon your money away naturally, so it doesn't normally need to add additional friction between you and your cash.

Found context for this. This is, essentially, a coinstar for changing cash coins into something you can play with (cages don't accept change). The fee is high, sure, but also it isn't charging someone to cash out

Don't go to a casino expecting to make money.

Better yet, just don't go to a casino.
