I wish it were fall vacation, and normalized for even adults (around the world, not just as a job benefit for some but as a fact of life) to take at least a month off somewhere between late August and the end of October. That's peak time to go outside and enjoy the changing weather, perfect temperature for a light jacket, enjoy the scenery with all the trees changing colors, etc -- the middle of summer's just too fucking hot, now. You're either boiling alive in the sun or it's pissing rain, and no in-between. It'd probably do wonders for the average person's mental health, and air quality/the environment, too, if everyone just took a month off around the same time each year and it was just a thing you were expected to have.

Buuuuut line must go up and we've got pumpkin spice lattes to sell, so.

Summer holiday: its probably to hot for school.
Winter holiday: its probably too snowy to get to school safely.
Easter holiday: go pretend to care about religion instead of school.
Autumn holiday: go help your family get ready for winter instead of school.

So time off was never part of the equation.

I agree 100%, but I think it mostly has to do with more natural light during the day.

We got so much time off in November due to teacher student conferences, teacher days, and other fuckery we usually did go on vacation in fall.

One year we went to Disney and the boat guy asked where we were from and over half the boat said NJ, he asked if we were a group and we all laughed and said no. Cause we weren't. We just all decided vacation instead of teacher learning days.

The translation of the Greek term for summer is "good weather."

Go back to whatever frigid Baltic rock you came from, OP. Talk shit about me with the puffins, it's fine.

As someone who hates the cold, gonna have to disagree on it being a bad season. As much as I hate the bees/wasps/mosquitoes, I hate the Devil's Dandruff ( snow ) and the ice that follows with it more.

I can handle the higher heat, but struggle a lot more with the cold.

Sounds like you're as knowledgeable about pelagic seabird distribution as you're tolerant towards differing weather preferences 😄

Yes, that's correct. See, look, you can get that right. Why not go personally inspect puffin habitats and let me know where they are?

Spring is my favourite season. When you get the first warm day after a depressing winter and the new leaves are growing and the cherry blossoms are in bloom.

We got summer in spring this year. In fact I think we got summer in winter (February) this year too.

Because it's easier to read Wikipedia than going to the nearest puffin place (the North Atlantic Ocean) from the non-baltic peninsula with hardly any rock on which I live 😄

My dad has worked in the same white collar job since he graduated highschool and he doesn't get paid anything super great or have a pension or anything, but he has like 5 weeks of vacation a year. Ever since I was a little kid he's always taken 2 weeks off every fall and just spent it puttering around in the yard, going for walks, and enjoying the weather.

And it was time off because all the kids were kept at home for helping on the farm in summer. School teachers gave up and closed school. That turned into vacationing time.

Big autumn head myself! It's just so fucking cozy.
I have a big lake here and everyone is just walking around it in circles all day long because Autumn is just so cool.
The falling leaves are my kind of cherry blossoms, very short lived but so beautiful.
I don't how anybody would prefer any other season. Like whats is wrong with you?!
Everyones talking about how great flowers in spring smell, but have you smelled autumn?!
Im just a bit sad it took me 24 years to realize, if not I would have cherished them alot more.
It is no use though to dwell in past though, looking forward to lots of really cozy autumns!!

Rainy can be cozy depending on the severity.
November is only miserable because its so close to Winter, that has nothing to do with Autumn.

That translation makes sense - Mediterranean climates (like Greece has) don't have to deal with humid summers. It's easier to like hot weather when your sweat evaporates.

In places with hot, humid summers, sweat just piles up until you're a shiny, dripping, salty mess. And you still feel hot.

It also makes sense if "sunshine" is considered "good weather." Mediterranean climates have their wet season in winter, so summers are the dry season, with clear skies and little rain. It makes sense in Greece, but other places get regular thunderstorms in summer, occasional tropical storms/hurricanes, or season-long monsoons that bring torrential rain inland.

Really depends, if youre sitting in a pool with a few beers or not. Living in a condo like a rat i basically skipped summers. Hate to share public places who litter and either themselves or their dog pees or poos in the place.

Get a garden and it's fun again. I know it's not possible for everyone but condo life is, for me, inhumane.

The only thing I hate about this post is associating prudeness to feminism.

Many, many women are fine with showing off their bodies, on the beach or otherwise. And yes, I agree with you on the idea it’s fine for people to like that image. Feminism would just be about giving women control of the decision to show themselves off, not about claiming “sexy images = Male-gaze-powered, and therefore toxic”

My hands feel like they're being crushed by boulders, and face feels like needle face x1000 in the cold. The peak of summer may be miserable but I can still function without extreme pain. And before anybody mentions better gloves or a face covering, it doesn't help. I've tried every magical glove in existence. And heated ones make me sweat after 5-10 minutes and I'm arguably in a worse position, same with full face coverings. FUCK WINTER.

I hate winter. Switching all my winter wardrobe to wool has made it at least less sweaty under all the layers. Seems like every winter thing is made of some synthetic fiber that acts like wearing a plastic bag when you sweat. Wool is the way.

Yeah, cold all the time, barely see the sun because I'm at work the entire time it's out. Can't do much of anything outside, roads are frequently shit, can't get together as much with my friends because none of our homes are big enough, think about offing myself constantly because of the above factors, winter blows.

I grew up (and still live) in a part of Canada where it regularly gets below -40°C in the winter, and... no. I 100% will say stuff like "I can't take off any more clothes."

Winter is fine, I can always add another layer. Summer sucks now, it didn't get this hot nearly as often in the past, and I mostly hate summer now.

I do prefer summer. Our summers are not that hot though. It's like 80 degrees every day, from 40 to 60's at night. Last August it got down in the 30's at night or so for a couple of weeks. 33 degrees one morning.

Winter is what sucks, especially the last one, hardest winter since the 90s we have gone soft here.

Almost no bugs now, until we get a good bit of rain. No bugs to speak of for a month here. Or longer. I am leaving my door open with no insect intrusions.

Also, where I am, early spring might not have many parasitic insects, but there are explosions of ticks, wood tick types, they don't generally carry disease but still. After it dries out in the summer there are like none now.

Plus spring has tons of cold snaps here. We get leaves later than moscow even though they are way north.

I hate the cold. Winter needs regular sauna at or over 100° to be tolerable. Summer at 25-35° is totally acceptable, as long as overnight it does drop off. Some of these heat waves, ouf.

I have never in my life supplemented "electrolytes," and have always been fine, and I run distance.

It's more marketing bullshit for beverages than anything. You are already getting too much salt I can assure you.

But if you do find yourself getting muscle cramps, it can be from low potassium.
