The top image was broadcast as a JOKE on French TV in 2014.
The lower image is a REAL weather report from June this year.

The worst part is when the top image was broadcast, people said that it was unrealistic and it would never get that hot, and now here we are, 24 years before the predicted time we're already surpassing all the predictions (I say prediction very loosely because I don't think there were any studies done)

They don’t label their cities? You just know what dot you live at?

Do you not know what area of the country you live in without having it spelt out for you?

Probably an American. Americans can't read maps.

Not all of the predictions.

We're surpassing the conservative predictions. Even the 'bad' predictions in things like the IPCC reports are relatively conservative and don't take into account feedback loops.

If you zoom in enough to see where your city is in America, it's just nondescript landmass. No coastlines to clue you in.

Lakes, elevation is usually shown on maps, county/state borders depending on map scale.

Aside from the coasts, there aren’t a lot of features on that map. Like if you did a square crop, removing the coasts and borders, it would not be immediately apparent.

the numbers are likely to reach 50C by 2050

Australian here: Oh, hello, back there in the past!

Australia’s highest temperature last summer (December 2025 - February 2026) was 50.0°C, recorded in South Australia at both:

Andamooka — January 29, 2026
Port Augusta — January 30, 2026

Port Augusta’s reading was described as the farthest south that an official 50°C temperature had been recorded in Australia.

And we're heading into summer again! Whee!

Tomorrow is going to be 37-38 degrees in parts of France, which is not normal for September.

If the country is the size of Ohio and has barely 5 cities that matter, yeah, you don't need labels.

I live in France and I do remember watching this image being broadcast, and yes it felt completely unrealistic at the time, nothing seemed to point in this direction, but yet here we are.

truesizeof.com screenshot of france compared to ohio

It's a little bigger than Ohio. I think Europeans just get an education when they're at school instead of... y'know, shot at
