With 25th anniversary of the tragic event coming, are there any albums that remind you of the life BEFORE 9/11 happened? |

Maybe all of popular music before 2001? No individual album in particular, just all of them. |

I was already in my 30s when 9/11 happened, and I can’t say I noticed any change in music attributable to it. |

I was a teen at the time and while a lot of this is personal taste, I think Offpsring's Americana just really nailed it for me. The whole album, but the titular track in particular, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtzKW_ONjJ0 9/11 wasn't a surprise in a lot of ways, we really felt it coming. Afterwards, in the early 00's that followed, I remember less of the alt and punk rock and a lot more of the cleanly produced emo pop punk taking over. Stuff like Alkaline Trio (From Here to Infirmary), The Ataris (So Long Astoria), Something Corporate (Leaving Through the Window), and Saves the Day (In Reverie). Appealing to angsty teens has always been like shooting fish in a barrel (see Sonic Youth or Nirvana) but in retrospect, it's hard not to see that widespread, mainstream appeal of emo as a reaction to something. EDIT: The Kids Aren't Alright |

Not a specific album, but John Mellencamp in the 80s and early 90s. He made being an American sound cool and hopeful and all of that. He still makes music, but I didn't listen to him much after 9/11. I do remember his song Our Country which was kind of about 9/11 and kind of about the world after it, but his earlier stuff was much more hopeful. Look up his album The Lonesome Jubilee, I think it's his best work to date. From 1987. |

I was 10 when 9-11 happened so not much, but Mark Knopfler's Sailing to Philadelphia always takes me back, released in 2000 and I remember being in the car with my dad listening to it |

As an aside The Coup had this artwork for a mid-September 2001 slated release. They pushed the date back and changed the cover.

While I can't think of an album that reminds me of the world before 9/11, I can definitely think of an album that reminds me of the date. Slayer's God Hates Us All released on September 11, 2001after being delayed due to mixing issues, resulting in the coincidence. They even make a couple references ot terrorism. |

Walkin' on the Sun, by Smashmouth It's from '97, but for anyone who wants to know what the end of the twentieth century sounded like, this, imo, is it. |

Not music, but the movie Fight Club is very much a pre-9/11 feel... specifically when Tyler is talking about how his generation has 'no great war or struggle'. That line hit hard the first time I heard it, then after 9/11 it felt very nostalgic of as time when shit wasn't so crazy. |

I’ve been listening to them for years. Do a web search for “the coup party music original cover” or similar? Rolling Stone, Reddit, CNN, Snopes, Discogs, Rapmusicguide, Allmusic were the first sources i found on page 1 of the results. Have a look. |

'Murica brained post. 9/11 wasn't worse or more important than many things that happened before or after in other countries. |

I was going to name this as well. One of the songs even has a line, "After two-thousand came two-thousand-and-one." |

Considering what they rap about the cover art kinda makes a lot of sense, but the timing was wild. |

'Murica brained post. 9/11 wasn't worse or more important than many things that happened before or after in other countries. For 97% of the world it's just one among many and not close to the top of what would count as a "before/after" thing.
ikr, did they somehow get traumatized by this event, but somehow manage to ignore all the other's that were bought about in their country's name? |

That movie is such a time capsule. Even though it hasn't aged well due to the pendulum swinging so far the other way in the issues it explored, it has to be appreciated just for being peak "end of the 90s". |

No change? The decline of rock and the rise of country for too many years? The transition from techno to dubstep? The end of middle eastern influence in trendy restaurant playlists? No noticeable change at all??? |

Flight Club was one of several cubicle movies released that year which was tapping into the underlying rage in what was otherwise an extremely peaceful time in history. It was strange that there was this underlying aggression in a lot of media which hadn't been there in previous "good times". |
