No idea what specie has taught you to photo, but I don't have the slightest idea what I am looking at.

I just remembered learning in junior high that marble and some other rock types used in construction sometimes contain fossils that look like this.

It's a common or garden variety windowsill, related to many different types of windowsills you might see around your neighborhood most times of the year.

Not only in my own neighborhood! My elementary school was in a building almost completely made out of marble. It's a really old building. The staircases were RIDDLED with fossils. :)

That paper clip looking guy had me convinced this was a joke and looking for gags in the other pictures and names, until I looked it up...

Most of the fossils in the schools I went to were in administration.

I knew it! Now, it’s finally confirmed, that these awesome means of transportation originated in the very primordial elements - hydrogen, helium and lithium - that turned into the cozy universe-chan that we know and love today. Thanks for enlightening me! :)

It's like a seal's face photoshopped off of its body and then half clipped into a wooden ledge. And I'm sober.

The grey/green stone on the top of your picture looks like marble. Marble is a metamorphic limestone, which means that recrystallization occurred, which means that you should not have fossils in it as much as in sedimentary limestones.

So maybe it's not a fossil but a trace of the excavation process? Is the stone as smooth as elsewhere in this area?

That being said, some very old limestone can be denser than marble without being recrystallized. I just don't know of any that aren't grey or beige.
