The occupied territories in Ukraine are full of torture facilities. If the war ends with the Russia gaining Ukraine's territory, then the torture campaign will not only increase in intensity in the currently occupied territories, but will be spread to all of Ukraine. Ukrainians have seen for four years what happens to Ukrainians under Russian rule. The current suffering pales in comparison to what they have ahead if they capitulate.

Ukrainians want to choose the path of least suffering. And that is to take the missiles. The Russia cannot kill 40 million Ukrainians with missiles, but they can kill 40 million Ukrainians if Ukraine capitulates.
