A man is facing numerous felony charges in Georgia after police allege he allegedly used a bizarre projectile to melt automatic license plate readers into smoldering heaps of metal and plastic.

According to Fox5 in Atlanta, 25-year-old Colby Williams was hauled into jail after allegedly setting fire to three automatic license plate readers (ALPRs) installed by the extremely controversial company Flock.

its been a while since I thought about it, but there was a trend 15 or 20 years ago on the internet for destroying traffic cameras. classic method from then was to hang a tire on them and set fire to it. for instance.

curious as to this novel projectile this guy was using!

That's ingenious. Well, not the tire fire thing, that's terrible for anyone who breathes. Still, clever.

My first thought was thermite since it's easy to make and burns through metal, but turning it into a flaming projectile is a whole other matter.

Like how styrofoam dissolved in gasoline and lit on fire so it becomes unremovable cake on whatever it's on? Just spitballing here.

"Though it isn’t known how the fires started, at least one camera was found “completely melted,” and had a “DeFlock” sticker slapped onto what remained of the pole. A fourth camera nearby was reportedly found with two bullet holes, the news channel reported."

This is a dog whistle. It's what Twitter looks for when generating content. Just be aware of it

", Williams was arrest using video captured from the [flock camera] which picked up a vehicle registered under his name."

He's proving why this needs to be done

You'd like to think if he was so savvy about the hazards of Flock cameras he'd do a better job of covering his own tracks.

Alternatively, the cops just grabbed the wrong person and tossed him to the DAs office so they could close a case.

Yeah, style is cool, but this also attracts the attention of the ATF, gives prosecutors more charges to tack on, and does nothing to eliminate any more cameras. Dressing like Zorro would do none of those things.

Napalm, yes. This is how one might hypothetically make napalm.

The people who concern themselves with doing the right thing, aren't the same kind of people that think to cover their tracks. It's counterintuitive, but if regular everyday people are just breaking these without fanfare, it directly fights the Twitter false reality that antifa or whatever is behind this.

Covering your tracks is part of it. You can't do the right thing if you're sloppy

Well, you can do the right thing once.

If you want to do the right thing multiple times, then it's useful not to get caught.

The tire smoke is bad but its a net benefit to society.

News media also have an incentive to report people who get caught, vs. those who don't

If you had a good mix you can ignite reliability it might be possible. But anyone near impact or under it's arc is likely fucked. It would definitely slag the cameras under ideal conditions. Unless you had an inflammable binder that wouldn't hinder the reaction.

Ukraine was experimenting with thermite dispensing drones. Haven't seen one in a while. The thermite dropped straight down - spraying it would be a challenging bit of engineering. Woe to anyone who is underneath it!

No kidding. Like a modern flaming-oil flinging catapult. It'd be a brutal weapon in any context.

It still establishes a MO if you do it more than once.

The trick is to change your style up.

Confidently approach one in Zoro attire; hit another with a rifle, hit another with a drone, cut one down with a sawzall and another with a grinder (dispose of the blade/grinding edge asap), wear varying amounts of padding around your shoulders and torso to give the appearance of different body types.

The only limit is your imagination!

Made some is that when I was a kid for some back yard adolescent science.

It works! ...it's a bit underwhelming. It is sticky as fuck, but it blows out surprisingly easy, and doesn't flare up into a roaring flame the way you'd expect something that's made largely out of gasoline and nicknamed "napalm".

It will also make YOU stink of gasoline. Like, bad.

There's a use-case for it to be sure, but experiment with it in a controlled environment (being hyper-aware of fume buildup from it and its raw ingredients) before, uh... conducting a field study.

Edit-

Gloves, eye protection, cotton clothing (synthetic shit will melt and stick to your skin), water, MORE water, fire extinguisher, buddy system. I've worked on patients with massive burns that will impair them for the rest of their lives over a stupid mistake with this kind of shit. Seriously, don't fuckin hurt yourself.
