To be fair, any job will do that to a person. I worked in a whisky bar for 5+ years with decent pay and loved most of it, had a lot of fun. Worked my way from a casual bartender to fill time salaried venue manager. Won international whisky and cocktail awards. But it started to wear on me having the exact same problems with the owner of the bar every single week, and the exact same conversation...

I’ve met delivery app drivers who were literally crying on delivery because they’re having trouble with bills and realizing there getting paid $40 to look around a store for 2 hours in addition to driving and delivering the actual food.

That's not being fair. I've been in several jobs that didn't.

Spoken like you consider diet cream a suitable replacement. Without talking to the cook first.

Diet cream usually won't work in cooking because it will curdle when real cream won't.

Try rubbing your big ol' russet potato with a little oil and seasoned salt before baking it next time. Little potatoes like this treatment too, no parboiling needed. When finished, add your butter/sour cream/chives/cheese/bacon as you usually prefer. Because they're still baked potatoes, just with crackly delicious skin and slightly less dry center.

I mean, "rubbing with a little oil and seasoning" to me is, if not making a roast potato, starting on that continuum.

But I don't bother with baked potatoes of any kind - roast is my preferred method.

There's an entire subreddit for people who complain about recipes because they decided not to follow the ingredients list.

True, you have to know what you're doing in order to improve rather than ruin.

I prefer my grandma to use them over driving herself. This stuff arrived over the pandemic but its niche is permanent, not everyone using it is doing it out of laziness.

these services are relatively new and the majority of people in these suburbs got along fine without exploiting that labor before.

There are edge cases that this may benefit (meals on wheels type situations) but I’d argue it’s still borderline immoral to use them.

I didn't say everyone was doing it out of laziness.

I said the majority got along fine before.

I said some portions of the pop'n benefit from it now.

It's still exploitative and I believe borderline immoral. The gig economy is bad for the overall economy.

Most grocery places now do their delivery/curbside themselves so you don’t have to patronize a third party app.

Your experiences are not up for debate - it's not the same thing as your interpretation of someone else's words. You haven't experienced the correct interpretation of the words from original author - you've experienced a situation that you see in those words. Your interpretation is therefore that they're talking about the same situation as you were in and, what's more, that their perception of ...

" being married to a man (again)" - this seems to imply that she was previously married to a man, and she's microdosing doing it again.

And my point isn't that you should hate your ex. I don't hate mine. My point is that people say you shouldn't hate your spouse. And that is true. If you hate your spouse, leave, don't bad mouth them. I was keeping you on topic because you brought up hating on husbands, and we're not talking about husbands. We're talking about ex's.

To the actual point, you'd be much better off spending your time on the root issues instead of attacking a very small minority of the problem. That's my only point, food/grocery delivery is so low on the list of capitalism exploitation shit.

It is fair. I have had MULTIPLE jobs that had me crying in the car before work nearly every day. Ranging from $7 an hour to more than $50 an hour. Toxic work environments that trigger these intense emotions is not all that rare. I'd say I'm the common denominator in these situations but I am known to be a very pleasant person to work with (I strive for this because it often makes work life 100x easier lmao). I could be delusional but I really don't think it's me. Unless being too nice is the reason I get into these situations BUT I DIGRESS. I'm genuinely happy you haven't experienced this because it's extremely difficult and destroys your mental health.

Took you 3 attempts to get that response out, eh?

The actual point is that I can comment on any issue I want, and dismissing that comment because it doesn't solve what you believe to be an overarching problem is silly.

You don't need to start from the top or the bottom. You can address any issue you want regardless of its perceived priority.

Trying to silence someone from doing so is silly.

A bit sexist but upvoted for the potential. Here's how simple it is to remove the sexism: Microdosing being married to a man (again) by gently but firmly guiding a boy Instacart shopper. Matthew, are you telling me there are zero (0) tomatoes in the entire store at 10AM

It's very sexist but man I don't know wtf is up. Every single time it's a masuline name my groceries are picked horribly and super common things are magically out of stock. One time I ordered tampons and the person with the masuline name got me Poise pads instead. THOSE THINGS ARE THICC AF FOR BLADDER LEAKS!!. 😭 Dude just grab a different brand of tampons, they all have the same logic of L, R, and S.

I've never understood that kind of service, getting others to shop for you sounds like way more of a hassle than just doing it yourself, is this some kind of american thing because their closest grocery store is three hours away by car or something?

I order directly from the grocery store and they deliver the groceries. The last thing I want to do after I drive an hour home from work (leave 6:20, return home 5:20) is walk all around a grocery store trying to avoid other shoppers. It's infinitely easier to order it while I'm working and have it delivered around the time I get home.

I hope ordering directly from them means a store employee is the one picking the items, so they know where stuff is and are being paid hourly, at least.

Stay-at-home wife has the kids and doesn't feel like dragging them through the store. Proposes that it's cheaper to order instacart or shipped because they don't make impulse purchases. (and for Target I 100% agree)

Ordering for pickup at the store is an option, but they're shopping for the store, not you, so you're going to get the older produce and less attention to replacements.

Personally, I like grocery shopping.

Because they will often say something is unavailable when it absolutely is, or will substitute an item that's no way a legitimate substitution. I've heard that women have a lot of trouble with getting correct period products.

And not to mention budget breaking substitutions, allergies, taste, lifestyle choices and such. Lots of things usually classified as lazy are originally borne out of accessibility needs.

Yep, certainly previously married to a man. But maybe he divorced her? Or he died, or they split amicably? Lots of possibilities.

Thanks for your clarification about not hating your spouse, I understand where you were coming from now. Looks like I interpreted that one too uncharitably, eh?

Lol, no they fucking didn't. They'd beg people to go shopping for them, meaning they were literally reliant on other people's schedules to get food. Or like my grandmother, she'd call a cab both ways, wobble herself down the stairs to wait for it, spend two hours slowly working her half blind ass through each aisle to find the shit she needed, and then still be unable to carry more than ten pounds of groceries at a time. This is a miserable ordeal.

Compare to my mother in law, in a similar position, her kids and grandchildren can just ship her food from anywhere with an app. She loves it. The drivers get tipped. We call her and she talks about what she got delivered. But sure, food delivery is "immoral" when you are sufficiently privileged I guess.

Roasting implies cooking them in some kind of fat. Roast potatoes are doused in fat after having been parboiled and their outsides roughened specifically to cook better in that fat. A baked potato is just heated dry. (And if you just ate them like that they'd be shit, but you typically add some butter or cheese)

I saw it as a commentary on how the patriarchy infantilizes men to the point where they don't even know how to shop properly. And that she doesn't have that experience with her now wife. Which is sometimes unfortunately accurate. Every horrible insta experience has been a dude. It hasn't been many, but when I ask for frozen pizza, no you can't swap it out for frozen peas. I get that they share ...

there's gotta be some sort of factor where low effort men gravitate to Instacart and low effort women gravitate to other jobs. I don't readily accept that men are just shittier, considering my own experience is rather equal

because that peas for pizza thing is fucking terrible lmao

as a related note, I'm not sure if we've had one successful male project manager at work. I think we have a couple now and at least one of them is doing well, but prior to that none of them lasted more than half a year and didn't do well in that time. I think we're approaching the half year mark on one of the men now. the women seem to be the only ones that can keep up with the shitstorm and put up with the abuse from all sides. I sure as fuck couldn't/wouldnt. read into that what you will about how people are treated in that work environment, and specifically how women are treated and how they deal with it.

I'm a man and I don't find it all that sexist.

It's a fairly lighthearted stab at how young men often lack basic life skills. In a patriarchal society, we've perhaps grown too accustomed to the women in our lives doing a lot of things for us because "men bring home the bacon, women keep things in order at home". Moms when we're young, then girlfriends, wives.

Yes, your version would work too, but not as well IMO.

Every single shopping system I've used you don't even know who you're picker is because who cares. You go on the website like normal, pick the stuff you want, and pay for it.

Presumably some store clerk goes and get the items and put some in the bag and then some one from uber door dash picks it up and delivers it to you.

If you have to remote control them I'm not sure how that's helpful
