I, robot by I. Asimov

First and foremost for a personal reason: it was the last book my father advised me to read before he passed. And second because it’s a beautiful logical puzzle, as most of Asimov’s work.

The Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander. I have come back to it as an adult more than once and I’m always thrilled that it holds up. The growth of the main character through the series and his commitment to being a good person makes me come back to it over and over.

Book: House of Leaves because it sparked my interest in learning English well enough to become fluid.

Film: American Mary, because of its accurate portrayl of the extreme body mod community. I have neither piercings nor tattoos, but i spent a lot of my teen years on an alternative forum where there were a lot of body mod and fetish people who shared their hobbies. None of that shit was for me, but because i was exposed to it at such a young age, it gives me the feeling of home when i see people with extreme body modications. And no piece of media that i have seen, has captured so accurately the nature of what that community feels like. Its weird as fuck. I mean, SO weird, but at the same time, these people also go grocery shopping and take a shit on the toilet and complaim about the weather. It's so chill. They are so chill. I feel at home whwn i watch that film despite being a basic bitch on the outside.

As for tv-shows, I'll have to draw a blank on that one. I didn't watch a lot of shows. I hated all sitcoms (tolerated Fresh Prince of Bel Air, though) and there weren't really a lot of real shows on tv that had any entertainment value to a teen. I preferred movies and books at the time.

I read Always Coming Home by Ursula K. LeGuin in my teens. It was a very important book to me that I keep coming home to.

The first three books in the Red Rising series, absolutely love them. I also just love good sci-fi dystopia books so I am biased.

I love these books too, I first read them in my teens, I was so sad when Coll died and Math son of Mathonwy, the redemption of Achren, and how Taran becomes a man

I also love the borrowing/adaptation of Celtic mythology and places. Great stuff

His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman

I was 11 when I picked up the first book in 1995, I remember eagerly waiting for the second and third books to come out. I didn’t realize how much it affected my world view until I reread it as an adult and WOW it really left a major impression on me.

Pullman is one of those authors that I will instantly purchase any book I find that I have not read.
