It sure as hell feels like manufactured hate than real hate. With Nickleback, I only ever started seeing people making fun of them after an episode of South Park (iirc) made fun of them, which just made every one of those jokes posted by a user online seem like they just wanted to copy the show and get some laughs. It feels exactly the same when I see memes hating on Imagine Dragons.

I'd argue that the difference is that JK is actively using the money she gets for Harry Potter to influence policy and hurt people. I don't remember Meat Loaf doing that...

I suspect the real reason a lot of people hate them is because they have mastered the earworm. One line from any of their songs will ruin your day.

Probably overlooked him somewhere but I didn't see Ed Sheeran, I believe he's okay, a good songwriter and very talented musician. He might be hated because it's very poppy, but it's cringe to hate stuff for being popular/pop.

I think, for a certain mindset (mine), it has been difficult to match his appearance with his music, which is basically pop that tries to be a bit sexy. I have no problem with unconventional-looking artists (Frank Black, Thom Yorke, etc.), but they don't try to sound like players, as such, and I think that is where the disconnect is for me. I also do not enjoy his music, and I don't really thinks he has much to say lyrically. There's something unabashedly commercial about him that just irritates me.

That said he definitely has talent and i'm clearly not his demographic, so what do I know.

That was the soundtrack to my uni years. It got old after a bit as it was pretty much ubiquitous, but I listened recently and really enjoyed it.

I remember my roommate said they should rename the album from 'Play' to 'Songs for Adverts', as it seemed like every commercial used a track from it at one point, which probably didn't help the overplayed criticism.

Agreed. However the big 4 was never about the "best 4" bands, it was the "bestselling 4" or "gateway bands". They should have been treat as the 4 bands to start out with, however people seem to think they are the best bands and therefore there is no point listening to other thrash🙄. Which couldn't be further from the truth.
