hello, it's been about a week and it's time for a new community blog post.

i want to be more dilligent about getting news from my usual sources directly, instead of relying on posts from around the threadiverse as i've done the past while. i don't think that's a bad thing, and i'll continue doing it.. but i like being the first person to post an article too. if you follow the feed, you probably noticed i would post a bunch of common dreams articles, followed by a chain of npr articles, or something like that. i'll let the threadiverse posts build up and scan through them over the weekend or so.

i only have so much time to spend on news so i don't get to everything, but i'm getting more efficient as time goes on. i'm still building up my sources, but i guess i'll share some of the ones i have so far. if you have some suggestions of your own, let me know.

npr: general, high quality news source
https://www.npr.org/

common dreams: progressive news
https://www.commondreams.org/

reasons to be cheerful: good news
https://reasonstobecheerful.world

r/PoliticalOptimism: the subreddit that inspired this community
https://www.reddit.com/r/PoliticalOptimism/

r/EcoUplift: good news about the environment
https://www.reddit.com/r/EcoUplift/

i also like to scroll through my mastodon feed where i follow a lot of flipboard news sources, occasionally something interesting pops up.

a comment about alternet
early in the trump regime, i loved alternet's puffed up articles saying it's all over for him.. but the deal is, they exaggerate way too much and i'm just tired, so they have mostly fallen out of my media radar. i won't say you shouldn't read alternet, but be weary because they like to ham up stories to an extreme degree.

anyway.. here's some news from the past week that i rejected for the community.

ice agent charged with lying about shooting in minnesota
https://www.nytimes.com/2026/09/03/us/federal-prosecution-minnesota-ice-shooting.html

this one hurts, because on the surface it sounds like justice.. until you read between the lines and see that these are federal charges and will likely be pardoned by trump.

turning point usa's uncertain future
https://www.npr.org/2026/09/10/nx-s1-5928517/charlie-kirk-death-anniversary-turning-point

haa, this is good news because fuck tp usa, but i also don't want to go against my own rule of celebrating death. this is only happening purely because charlie kirk was the center of that organization and he's no longer around, not because of a lack of popular support for tp usa's ideals. at least, that's my feeling about it.

As long as Castro is brought into federal custody in Minnesota, he will also face state charges. He only nearly dodged them because he was in Texas.

hmm, it's more complicated than i originally thought, but he doesn't seem to have been extradited to minnesota, even though he's been charged.

there's so much fuckery around this case.
