The Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) clarified on Tuesday that any unilateral declaration placing Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) communities as “off-limits” to government security forces is beyond the legal mandate of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

It reads like an onion article because there is an Islamic fighting organization that gave itself a name forming the shorthand MILF.

I thought MILF stood for something else; that changes the meaning of that headline.

Nobody at their first meeting wanted to admit that they knew what it meant.

A lot of The Onion articles honestly aren't that funny outside of the headline. Like, the joke is mostly just contained in the headline.

I remember reading that their writing process consists---or consisted, at one point---of writing funny headlines, picking a few of the best, and then writing an article for the headline. It's why you have all those headlines without articles on The Onion. Those are the runner-ups.
