Those can make it worse, might depend on the glove though. Pulling fibers out of shredded skin hurts way more and you don't get as much feedback on the oar.

This only really happens when you first start, once you're grip isn't strangling the oar cuz the boat isn't set and your calluses develop, you're fine

Well for me it was different but I wasn't sure if different climbing styles might lead to this. The image on the left isn't too different from what I experienced at times with bouldering
