I predict failure. Not enough people want a car like this to sustain the company. The few who can afford it don't want this style. These things never work. |

Small production run sports cars were always a thing, and with the technically much simpler electric drive those small production runs can be sold for the price of a normal car instead of sports car prices. In addition they seem to have gotten a Chinese company with lots of automatization experience on board, so that should improve margins a bit as well. I think they have a good chance to survive in a niche market. |

Cool but can we just get a regular non-spacecraft looking one instead? |

This shape is quite essential to get the low power requirements due to aerodynamics. Without this shape it would likely not be able to reach the cruising speeds it needs for driving on highways etc. |

Wow, are they finally going to turn this vaporware project into something physical?
Lol no, just trying to drag in another round of investor money.

That's a good point. Hopefully one day they will get to the point where they are better looking, or maybe we will all just get used to something different 🤷♂️ I still think this is a cool thing, even if the style is off-putting to me personally. |

I dunno, +-60k with every option isn't bad when the average new car price is 50k. The climate here where I live in the US southwest coupled with my driving habits means I'd have to charge maybe once a year. Would like to see these with sodium ion batteries though, at least for the smaller ranges. If I traveled a lot I feel like I could be swayed by a machine with that kind of range too. I agree they look strange, but I fall into the function/form camp, especially when it comes to vehicles. |

I know nothing of crash testing cars, but this does not look particularly safe. Please prove me wrong. |

It's legally not a car, it's a three wheel motorcycle, thus has no safety requirements. At all. There is a bill HR 3385 to ban these. But they are targeting the same stans that would burn for Elon. |

But $60K for a motorcycle is stupid. It's a not a car. |

Wow, are they finally going to turn this vaporware project into something physical? Forward-looking statements are subject to a number of risks and uncertainties, many of which involve factors or circumstances that are beyond Aptera’s control. Lol no, just trying to drag in another round of investor money. https://web.archive.org/web/20071222065039/http://www.greencarcongress.com/2007/11/aptera...
This grift has been going on since 2006, in which the company promising production since 2009. Just another 20 million bro... What is incredible is the stans who believed for 17 years. |

As much chance as Bollinger, Canoo, Nikola, Fisker, Lordstown, Faraday...it's a niche of a niche market. Guys who work at health food stores. |

I want Aptera to succeed so bad even despite the outrageously idiotic design decisions like KNOCKING ON THE DOOR TO OPEN IT INSTEAD OF A MECHANICAL HANDLE Or having to use the touchscreen to roll the windows up or down Or the stupid fucking tesla charging connector (I'm still bitter about "NACS" becoming an actual thing) But even ignoring that stuff, I'm not optimistic about them. |

DISCLAIMER: I didn't do really any research on traditional 3 wheel vehicles, this is just the first result with a price I saw This 3 wheeler starts at 22,299, only carries 1 passenger, no weather protection, ICE engine, etc. etc. There's probably overlap between the prices if you go bottom-of-the-barrel Aptera and top of the line Can-Am. If I was shopping for a new vehicle, didn't have a family of 5 to drive around, and was certain the company would stay above water I'd be all over this. |

Because the rear of it is very pointy, right? Lol. I didn't realize my comment would be so contentious, but if it makes any difference, I do think this is a cool project. |

I can dash this hope for you: its vaporware. They have been "building" this "car" since 2019, or if you count their previous try, 2006(!!!!!). At this point, there are a lot of videos about those grifters, but I like the ones from youtuber "Wallstreet millenial": TLDW: They dont have the money or the staff to manufacture it, and no one wants to fund them, so they have been scamming their customers with penny stocks to keep afloat. Even if they somehow magically got funding, their "car" has so many fundamental design flaws and regular unfixed issues that it would be very hard to use as a car. The only thing that they got going for them is that it looks cool, and it would be nice if something a little bit like that existed. But not from Aptera. |

Right? I remember seeing this thing in a Popular Science magazine when I was a teenager. This thing's so old it was featured in the 2009 Star Trek movie: https://www.imcdb.org/v302430.html |

I'm glad there's a standard. I'm even glad Tesla's connector was made an open standards. I just wish it hadn't been made the standard for North America. |

CCS was and remains a standard. There was no need to codify Tesla shit! |

I remember seeing the Aptera prototype in person at the Detroit Auto Show (yes yes I know, its really the North American International Auto Show, but no one calls it that). They talked about it going into production in a couple of years. I was ready to put down money. That was 2008. Here we are not quite 20 years later with the same claim. I'll be happy if it ever comes out, but I'm not holding my breath. |

CCS1 is a horrible connector standard. I'm glad a better replacement came out irrespective of its origin. The NACS (Tesla) connector is now an open ratified standard SAE J3400. Besides history, it has no dependency to Tesla anymore. Any company that wants to use J3400 can ignore Tesla entirely and still derive the benefit to its users. |
