I'm not sure what the implication here is to be honest - am I supposed to be the small town man in this scenario?

yes. calling more than two lanes each direction being "mental illness" screams "i have never been in a crowd"

I REFUSE to do a caravan for reasons like this. Give me the address or a map pin and I'll make my way there and you can do the same. I can't handle the bullshit of following or leading multiple cars. I'll die on this hill.

It's also exhausting to be the leading car. I sometimes have to do it at work (a quite big industrial site) and even that's moderately annoying.

I really don't care for people who give me shit for using GPS. Of course they're all older.

Using GPS is normal. Using GPS for everywhere you go, including locally or places you've been before, is shocking. I've met people who literally can not drive without GPS, and that shit is frightening.

Edit: If you can't drive short distances without a robot literally telling you where to turn, you shouldn't have a license.

Right. So I live in an apartment in the capital of my country, where transit moves far more people than the highways ever does.

While we're being derogatory, your opinion is incredibly American

I once had to follow someone to church camp in high school. It was 100+ miles away, and she started doing 90 on the highway in her BMW. Meanwhile in my rickety KIA Spectra, I could barely do 65. She lost us, and I had to have someone else I was giving a ride to call her to get the address.

She got pulled over and ticketed, and still made it there before me.

I use it if I'm going anywhere out of town (even if i know how to get there) because it will redirect me if there is a road cosure/delay

So she had to wait for you in the parking lot? Totally worth it. /s

Hell, I use it locally if there's any highway involved. Wrecks are common here and knowing what roads to avoid is nice.

It is the Richtlinien für die Anlage von Autobahnen (RAA)

on a two or four lane highway, sure. on anything six lanes or larger, there definitely is.

No, there is only one regular lane in each direction. And if you want to pass you take the second land. The third lane is to pass someone who is passing someone. The forth lane is to pass someone who is passing someone who is passing someone. And so further.

If there are six lanes, the sixt lane is to pass someone who is passing someone who is passing someone who is passing someone who is passing someone who is driving in the regular lane.

The speed does not matter.

If there is that much traffic there should be a train line instead.

It's very useful for rerouting when there's traffic or roadworks.

I use it way less when I go far, since that's mostly just highways.

*Passing lane There is no "fast lane"

This is country dependent.

Which functionally turns the innermost lane into the fast lane. Y'all are whinging about semantics.

Which has to comply to a version of the uniform vehicular code if citizens of your country are going to be able to use their extant drivers licenses internationally.

While I agree in general, there's still the last bit from the station to home. I can only get a hundred pounds of kitty litter on my trike. If I need to haul more, I need an (hopefully electric) automobile.
I just finished buying everything for a project I've been designing for a few years. If I had taken public transit, it would have taken 3 or 4 trips.

Why do you buy it a hundred pounds at a time? That's like 6 months worth with 2 cats.
