Lepton is a waydroid fork. So yes, both are. |

Might be possible, but...

Might be possible, but... Lepton disables various Android services that are not required to run games possibly breaking compatibility with some applications. Lepton is not designed for general Android use, instead opting to keep the bare minimum functionality required to launch into games.
Checking the patches on their repo, it seems it will not be very useful for running bank apps and that kind of stuff on waydroid, maybe if they publish a signed image with all the patches for faking a real android environment, but the patches look like they're fixing only for their hardware/stack. |

You already have Waydroid - but this strips out a lot of stuff you might need, so Waydroid is probably the way to go anyway |

What if I'm trying to run foss apks in an isolated environment? Like a Lemmy client? |

This seems rather cool! on an unrelated note: why do companies keep buying different domains instead of reusing old trusted ones? git.steampowered.com or git.valvesoftware.com would be perfect but they are using https://gitlab.steamos.cloud now? If I only saw the domain I would never expect it to be officially by valve...
It reads like a cheaper scam, right. I think there is something to make it not about them or steam alone, from both the open source and business perspective. But there are TLDs more reputable and relevant to said project than .cloud at least. P.S. And do they use Anubis? It's like the biggest project I saw using it, and without any paid customization too. |

Ah. Another "rebranding theft" |

No. Lepton is quite far from waydroid. Significant architectural changes, like Lepton is userspace only, waydroid runs a shared virt while Lepton is per app containers, etc. |

Valve tends to be good about upstreaming, etc. The original projects aren't losing out |
