I dunno, I've known more than a few teachers concerned about AI and smartphones in the classroom as they're worried about how those are messing up kids...

The people actually interested in protecting children would agree; multiple adults helps protect children.

And that leads to draconian laws that steal smartphones from 18 year olds in classrooms while they're in lesson, without them having even taken them out or done anything, taking property from legal adults that they need to keep in contact with people for important reasons

At least where I live, there's certainly ko laws that would allow a teacher to keep a student's phone. I'd be super curious to see that kind of law!

I don't see anything in there about stealing phones? The law does prohibit students from having them during the school day, which seems entirely appropriate.

is this blatant ageism, or a joke that's too unfunny for me to get?

As a mom in the USA, I have a tiny bit of peace of mind knowing my child can communicate with me in case of violence

Add the "What could a banana cost, $10?" meme behind it and it works
