Perched outside a station (for public display) in Northern India; this NG loco harks back to a different era

Awe. It doesn't look "abandoned." It looks well cared for and on display.

This is what The Goog has to say...

This is locomotive No. 152, a single-cab variant of Indian Railways Class ZDM-3 narrow-gauge diesel locomotive built for the 2'6" (762mm) narrow-gauge lines. It spent its active career operating on the famous heritage Kalka-Shimla line before being retired from regular service around 2013.

Today, this specific engine is permanently plinthed and preserved as a heritage monument outside the Ambala Cantonment railway station in Haryana, India.

The classification code ZDM breaks down as:
Z: 2'6" Narrow Gauge
D: Diesel power
M: Mixed traffic duty (capable of hauling both passenger and freight trains).

It is technically what you had call a heritage loco.

Indian Railways classifies locos by three initial letters . W for Broad Gauge, Y for Meter gauge and Z (pictured) for Narrow Gauge.
