“Parents became nervous bringing their kids around because they were scared the police were going to come back,”

Before the FNBKC arrests, another hot-meal volunteer group, Free Hot Soup, was stopped by the Kansas City Health Department, which poured bleach on all the food in 2018.

How anyone feels good about themselves literally taking food out of hungry people's mouths is far beyond anything I can understand. 😠

Rumored company policies have been leaked that surrounding store employees are not to serve FNBKC volunteers and not to take free meals during service, despite some employees previously using FNBKC’s services.

This is something that has bothered me since I was 16 working in grocery stores and restaurants. So much edible food is just trashed because it gets ugly or the day ends. Not getting this to hungry people just seems like the hugest waste.

The TooGoodToGo app I think is a nice start to reduce food waste, though it's hot or miss depending where you are and doesn't help people the same way as a group like Food Not Bombs does.

The hostility and upholding of the trespassing charges have surprised both defendants: “It’s a wider societal problem. They aren’t used to dealing with us, since we don’t have a leader,” Wolfgang states, “we are leaderless and leaderful.”

I enjoy the idea of the cops looking around trying to decide who to arrest when they can't arrest everyone, yet no one person is the leader. Highlights both how much we expect a vertical power structure and one of the potential positives of not having one.
