My mother in law would load bowls on top of glasses and then complain that my dishwasher didn't work because there would still be food stuck to the bowl. |

But, in order to believe this, she must have had a dishwasher that she could load that way, no? I suppose it's also possible yours was the only dishwasher she'd ever used, washing dishes by hand otherwise. My parents never owned a dishwasher, they had four kids. We were the dishwashers. |

Absolutely fucking you didn't. Just on the top tray, the outside bowls are facing the wrong way, there's a cup under the clear storage container, with the container facing the wrong way, and towards the front and center you double stacked bowls, also facing the wrong way. I bet you don't even pre run your sink till it runs hot water before you start a dishwasher. |

Top of the line vs medium of the line. My old dishwasher I could load however I wanted and it would get clean, can’t double stack with this one. I think it’s how the spray arms are designed, my current one has 6 holes per arm, where I think my old one had 18 or so. |

I have never seen a home dishwasher that you plumb into hot water, they usually have their own heating elements for better temp control |

Than they are installed incorrectly. They get installed on the hot line. They have a heater since the hot water isn’t hot enough, but you can give it hotter water to be more efficient. |

Not if you’re using a cycle that’s way colder than your hot water. My dishwasher varies between 40 and 65 degrees celsius depending on the measured opacity of the water. My hotwater tank is adjusted to 65 degrees plus there’s a long as fuck pipe from that to the kitchen, so the heatloss would be immense. |

Depends on your heatsource, my hotwater is heated with electricity as is my dishwasher. Using the hotwater supply would just mean heatloss from the tank to the dishwasher. |

Most ones are or should be. It's more energy efficient on electricity than the dishwasher heating element to heat the water, and many newer (like last 20 years) dishwashers are designed to be plumbed to the hot water and their built in heating elements are smaller and do more for just maintaining or slightly heating the water instead of heating completely cold water to hot. |

Your hot water tank is more efficient than the heating element in your dishwasher, and the water starting off hot instead of slowly getting heated reduces the runtime of the dishwasher. |

Are you in the US? They all gave their own heating elements to adjust the water temp, but they take time to heat up those couple of gallons and the elements design isn't as efficient as a home water heater, so the cycle length is shorter if using hot water and the energy is more efficient than begining each cycle with cold. |

No it isn’t. My hotwater tank uses a resistive heating element just like my dishwasher, and all resistive heating elements are 100% efficient. The difference being that I have ~20 meters of pipes from my hotwater tank to the dishwasher that’ll loose heat to the surroundings. so in my case, heating directly in the dishwasher is more efficient. If you have a heatpump (some other cheaper way) to heat your hot water, then it’s a different story. And the runtime really doesn’t bother me, it only runs at night when I’m sleeping and electricity is cheap, and so does my hotwater tank. |

Here in Sweden it is recommended to connect the dishwasher to the cold water mains, the dishwasher heats up the water it needs by it self. Also, remember that all of Europe uses 220V power, making it far more efficient to heat up water than if you only get 110V |

Look, man. Instead of just trying to argue back and forth with me over this, just go do some research on the internet, hopefully a little more than asking Gemini, and you'll find out all on your own. Outside of the US it's less common to hook to the hot side, but it's the norm in the US. The non US models take longer to wash because they have to heat each water exchange up from completely cold to like 130f. Most of Europe actually gets to have a leg up over the US for electric water heating elements to work a bit faster, because the electric grid in US runs at 120v and 60hz instead of 230v and 50hz. The higher voltage can heat water quicker. I don't know where you live. |

Most places outside US will still just plumb into the cold water side instead of the hot. It's a bit less important because the 230v 50gz electric grid most of Europe uses is faster at heating water than the 120v 60hz electric grid in the US. |

Damn, people really don't know how to use dishwashers. This shit ain't getting clean, it's all packed in way too close together. Dishwashers "scrub" by spraying soapy water, typically upwards. If that stream of soapy water can't make contact with the dirty sides of your dishes then you may as well just dunk your dishes into a bucket of soapy water and call it clean. |

I explained it a couple other times in the thread chain, but most European countries still use cold most of the time. Most places in Europe (like France) have 230v 50hz electricity. The US uses dishwashers on our 120v 60hz system (we have a 240v 40 amp system for our main water heaters). While the 120v system works great for most things, it does a pretty terrible job at using resistance heating for warming up water. So plumbing cold water to the dishwasher in the US would make it take a lot longer to get the water hot compared to you guys on the 230v system, and running the hot water till it's warm let's the water be fully hot from the moment it goes into the dishwasher, so the pre wash cycle does a better job. |

I disagree. In my personal experience. Dishwashers work better when they are well packed rather than well spaced. Important emphasize on "well packed". Obviously the water needs to be able to flow between the items and not get puddle on top of a bowl or cup. The dishwasher presented here is well packed and it will wash very well. Half empty dishwasher will probably not be an issue and things will come out clean, but it's a little wasteful. |

I'm assuming you either pre-wash your dishes, only use them for things that will come off with a light soak, or have a lower standard for clean. Because based on my personal experience, packing this close guarantees dishes are going to come out with oily residue or crusty bits towards the top where the water jets can't reach. |

No prewash, no rinsing in sink, straight to the dishwasher. Dish soap can react with dishwasher detergent and actually cause to clean less effectively or leave white streaks. I always expect the dishes to come out perfectly clean, not oily and definitely no crusty bits ! I use also the cheapest powder detergent, the amount is important, too much is not good. If your dishes come out oily or crusty, you should check the filter and clean it. Make sure the regenerating salt is topped up if your dishwasher uses that and the rinsing liquid topped up as well. |
