I was ready to shit on the dev for such a blatant ripoff but the news link kind of clears it up. Relevant part:

I originally released this back in May as a free learning project and tech demo. I want to clean up my developer profile so I can focus on the new game I'm building. Plus, with how easily AI can generate these kinds of basic demo projects today, it doesn't make much sense to keep it up on Steam.

Just a person practicing game dev, not an asset flipper trying to make a quick buck. Their reason for pulling it is solid and it's pretty cool of them to release the code

Why is this even news? As you point out this is ... nothing?

OP posted a free game. It's "news" because the dev posted it as news about the game going away.
