Recently there's been a lot of talk in the osu! community about a custom firmware for some drawing tablets that can massively increase the polling rate. I just installed it and wanted to share how to do it.

You'll have to open the link in a Chromium-based browser because those are the only browsers that let websites access USB devices like your drawing tablet. Websites can't just access any device though, you'll have to select the specific USB device you want the website to have access to once it asks for it. The browser I used was Ungoogled Chromium.

The website already gives you all the instructions you need. Read them carefully and do exactly what it tells you to do.

The only part I misunderstood was right at the beginning and specific to Linux. It tells you to create a file (/etc/udev/rules.d/70-lc87.rules) and gives you two code blocks. The first is supposed to be the contents of that file, so you'll have to do something like sudo micro /etc/udev/rules.d/70-lc87.rules (You can replace micro with any editor you like, like vim or nano) and then paste the first code block into the editor and save and exit. The second code block is just a command you can copy and paste into the terminal. You need to do this, so the browser itself has access to your tablet. Also don't forget to unplug and reconnect the tablet after doing that. Then you can just click "Continue", select the tablet you have, select the firmware you want and follow the instructions to install it.

I have a Wacom CTL-472 and I chose the 600Hz firmware and it seems to work perfectly fine.

The project also has a Discord server for when you need help or want to stay updated on the project.
