I watched this talk just yesterday. Really interesting and thoughtful design ideas. For anyone who might be disagreeing with the idea on the basis of the title alone, he recognises that the desktop experience has changed since displays have become larger and Microsoft and Apple are no longer innovating. I think this might be why we've found tiling window managers (for example) to be more functional in recent years.

Animals in the zoo have "enrichment". I think that'd be fun. When I'm looking for the spreadsheet I'm working on for a meeting, I want to have to hunt around for it everywhere first. Like, if my desktop was Animal Crossing.

Will I find my spreadsheet? Will I find an MP3 from 2003? Will I find nudes from the recycle bin of the janitors home computer?

I don't know! But I know I'll need to look all over for it. That's "enrichment"!

Changing what people are used to would result in even fewer people being willing to switch over from Windows and macOS.

Something similar to the tiling model also dominates on small screens, like phones.

And while I've used tiling WMs on Linux for well over a decade (probably nearing two), it does seem that plenty of people will prefer the familiar over trying something new, c.f. Win8's reception (I've never used it myself)
