Admittedly the romans weren't driving thousands of multi-ton vehicles over them at high speeds |

The second picture could also be built by the Romans 2 weeks ago... |

I don’t think the Romans existed 4000 years ago. More like 2000 years ago. |

bro... if we made roads like the romans did, they'd take ages and still fuck up your car. the roads in the first pic haven't endured trucks and shit... |

The Roman road would be destroyed within days if trucks drove over it. |

4th power of axle weight. A truck is going to do thousands of times the damage of the heaviest cart. |

Sounds like a fun experiment, would be cool to recreate a roman road and see |

All you nits saying roman roads would be destroyed in a day by today’s cars and I’m here in Italy watching trucks drive over similar roads with just newer tech. Cobblestone roads are a thing. |

They need to be maintained though, just as any other roads. Cobbles also move when something drives over them and in time it adds up. |

what they looked like when heavy carts ran over them:
Also, Romans poured metal into them for repairs apparently |

I'd rather see the opposite - a modern road construction without modern usage after 2000 years |

There is a rail trail near my house that seams to be similarly constructed to a road. It hasn't held up well, requires continuous maintenance and additional asphalt. I have a theory that modern road technology isn't the best, it's the most short term profitable. Designed to wear down and require maintenance and new purchases. |

Ive read the roman roads were built to never send aaintenance crew to. What exactly that means, I have no idea |

Additionally, this road got lucky. We don't see all the ones which fell apart over 4000 years. |

It looks like an inverted rail. |
