Eh. Of course people who use it trust it. They wouldn't use it otherwise. Their trust is misplaced.

You might say, "they wouldn't trust it if it didn't work". But, I don't think that's true. People trust things that don't work all the time, like religion, tarot cards, astrology, fortune tellers, stock pickers, face creams, and Presidents. It doesn't need to work, it just needs to make people feel better about themselves and their choices. People are stupid and easily manipulated, and having made several dumb choices in my life, I'll include myself in that group. Although, I don't use AI at all, and I like to think I've learned from past mistakes.
