When researchers edited videos of 17 white British men to give them deeper voices, American men watching the videos thought the men were stronger and better at fighting. Deep voices didn’t make them more attractive to American women watching the videos - unlike in studies that only had audio - but high-pitched voices did make them less attractive. When men were asked to guess the weights of the men in the videos, they tended to guess that those with deeper voices weighed more. However, although voice pitch did affect all of these ratings, what the men actually looked like had a much bigger impact on how viewers saw them.
