New show idea: a cooking show where contestants battle to see who can blindly match a flavor and/or texture better

So like imitation recipes? Like you take a meal from a restaurant and try to get people to match it?

Kind of. I was thinking blindfolded tastes of something like blueberry jelly on a steak with white pepper. A couple of bites and then they try to recreate what taste they think it is. You could even do it where you get kids to cutely make weird dishes and real chefs compete to try see how sensitive their pallets are.

I don’t know if that would work so well. Most people don’t have well enough developed palettes in order to be that discerning. Maybe if the contestants were professional chefs, but good luck getting a bunch of professional chefs to participate.

It’s not an uninteresting idea, it’s just that it’s impractical from a production standpoint.

Maybe it would work as a YouTube channel, but only if you could start it up already knowing a bunch of chefs who would participate to help get you going.

And if you had a really good editor, who knew how to shoot out a bunch of TikTok clips at around 30 seconds or so to market the hell out of it.

I think that being hilariously wrong and trying to figure it out would be one of the best parts.

In German there is a show very similar to this.
Two chefs challenge the other to cook some restaurants signature dish blind (without knowing what's in it).The chefs only get to try it once, and not in the restaurant. Then they have to cook it for the original's chef's guests in the original kitchen, with ingredients they bought themselves.

It's called Kitchen Impossible, they aren't both trying to match the same recipe, they both challenge each other with what they think will be hardest. Very funny and you learn a lot of shortcuts for flavors...

Well, that’s just the gimmick. Not the whole show. If that’s the only thing that you put in the show, people will get tired of the novelty after a while and move on. If you’re trying to build a show instead of a fad, there needs to be more to it.
