The only ones that ever had soul were in Motown, but I think they're all basically dead now, too.

Yeah it gets pretty crazy trying to clean mold out of a mug, takes bleach and then it might take salt and it might even require being shaken with baking soda inside and then washed with vinegar, if it's recoverable at all.

This reminds me of an old claymation show with a little yellow character who interacted with household things. Bogus? This interaction would have been incredible.

I've gotten pretty good at cleaning them.

Good to know… a friend was asking - totally not my partner with his ages-old tea

Polident denture cleaning tablets. Fill it with water, drop a tablet in, and let it soak over night. Wash/rinse the next day it until the minty flavor is gone (or toss it in the dishwasher). The minty flavor won't hurt you but it makes coffee taste weird. Also works to clear stains off old mugs or rubber pieces that have gotten funky.

I'm sure my protein shake cup would have stories to exchange with that mug.

I haven't heard of that one! It looks like it was this and was in a lot of countries. Maybe not as much claymation as I remember, it has animation, also.

there are bottle cleaning tablets, you just fill the bottle with warm water, drop one (or in severe cases two) tablet in, wait 15-30 minutes and then rinse it out thoroughly. they're a beautiful invention. now i just need something that automatically cleans the lid for me.

Tip for anyone with stainless steel ones: DO NOT USE BLEACH. It reacts with the outer coating on the steel and corrodes it, which creates micro-cavities where mold can sequester.
