And the parents actively poisoned their child. How about blaming them rather than the government. |

The parents should shoulder some responsibility here too. It's not like the kid just found the milk and drank it. We learn about what pasteurization is and why it's important in high school. Barring that, she obviously has access to the internet to do any iota of research on why raw milk is a bad fucking idea. If a parent gives an infant alcohol to keep them quiet and it causes their liver to fail, they are held responsible. There's no reason that this should be any different. Should the farm also be held responsible? Absolutely. But "they let me buy it" isn't a defence. |

Giving faith healers the formal title of “Dr” should not be happening. But chiropractic exists. The parents should know better, but authority figures (chiropractors on Facebook) spread disinformation freely. |

She had bought raw goat milk from a farm recommended to her in a Facebook group run by her chiropractor. Marris had hoped the milk, unprocessed and natural, would help with her daughter Brooklyn’s constipation. But doctors now suspected the unpasteurized milk, which hadn’t been heated to kill off pathogens, was the source of the toddler’s severe E. coli infection. The parents should shoulder so...
On the condition that they disclosed the milk as raw, hard disagree. Freedom means freedom to choose. You can order raw or undercooked foods at a restaurant, there’s a small warning on the menu, and if you suffer any adverse affects from the decision the consequences are fully your own to bear - not the restaurant’s. The farm shouldn’t have the responsibility of auditing peoples’ intentions with the product either. For all they know, it could have been puechased with the intent of making raw milk cheese. |

They lied about they tests they were performing on it and knowingly (illegally) sold it for human consumption, per the article. And the parent has text messages showing the owner knew it was for a young child. |

I think you quit reading to early:
By the time investigators go there, she claimed to be selling only for pet consumption, which was enough to weasel out of the fine but still got the farm shut down.

You can be licensed and sell raw milk, just with warnings... This farm was unlicensed and not disclosing that. Like, you can open a restaurant, but you have to be licensed. If you're unlicensed and presenting yourself as an actual restaurant and get people sick... |

Well, it was recommended by a quack (chiropractor). The fact that chiropractors are allowed to practice their voodoo pseudomedicine, is baffling to me. |

Yeah it's shambolic. We have similar problems in Australia, where chiropractors can earn PhDs and then understandably some call themselves 'doctor', but they are legally disallowed from calling themselves medical doctors. Many still try their best to blur the narrative. Thankfully, most of the public knows that physiotherapists are far more qualified and have no quackery in thier study - it's just another medical field similar to nursing, so they are becoming more popular (at least in my circles). |

Worse is the trend of chiropractors giving heath advice on Youtube, posing as doctors. Someone should sue the fuck out of Youtube for allowing this. |

Gonna have to soft disagree with your hard disagree. "A small warning on the menu"? Like it's freedom to let kids take LSD as long as 'not for minors' is printed on the tab? Its a public health health concern. Now, undercooked burger and you get food poisoning? Well, hopefully you learned your lesson. Raw milk hospitalizes infants? Sorry, "we listed the risk on our website" doesn't cut it. "Maybe they were making raw milk cheese as a hobby?" Sure, you should have to sign paperwork that plainly and boldly outlines the risk of misuse. Before you say it's a slippery slope and youd need to sign a waiver to buy bleach, the Secretary of Health is pushing this dangerous product on people, whereas no one in the government is recommending injecting bleach to cure viru— uh, nevermind, thats a bad example. |

How about we just ban the sale of non human milk? You shouldn't be drinking that stuff. It's bad for you, bad for the animal, and bad for the climate |

Calorically dense is not the same thing as "bad for you", but I've already noticed you're the pushy sort of vegan so I don't expect any nuance. |

Why did these idiots think that raw milk would have health benefits. All pasteurization does is heat it up, it has the exact same nutritional value both before and after. There is no scientific basis for believing there of health benefits. |

Pasteurization kills bacteria by being hot enough long enough to destroy proteins that are essential for them to live. I'd bet that there are some other proteins in milk that get damaged at the same or lower temps than the pasteurization process, but I highly doubt that those proteins are miracle proteins that boost your immune system and prevent autism and make you shit better. It's a lot of words to say that there is probably some reduction in the nutrition of the milk, but it's negligible compared to the benefit of not killing your child. |

The parents should shoulder all of the fucking responsibility! What is wrong with you jack asses? I'm selling raspberry flavored shattered glass. If your dumb ass gives it to your kid, that's somehow my responsibility? I gotta babysit all of my idiot customers genius kids? Because they were smart enough to eat it, so they didn't have to be raised by mongoloids. |

If you make something that is known to be dangerous to eat, and you sell it as food, you absolutely should be liable for damages. Jail the farmer AND the parents. On a related note: Are any of those for-profit prisons traded on the Dow Jones? |
