Theme: scent notes for TTFFC Power Wagon are root beer and espresso. That's it. Both are extremely prominent. I pair this with a whisky AS and good ol' Denim. Now I smell like Griswald family on a whacky road trip.

Daily Challenge: u/hugbckt is a good member of the community. I don't know him very well, but I'm glad he's on our team.

  • Brush: 3D Printed - w/RDC DinoBoar 26mm Boar
  • Razor: Gillette Flat Bottom Tech
  • Blade: Personna P74 (12)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Leviathan - Soap
  • Post Shave: Whole Hog - Unscented - Aftershave

Excellent shave with this coffee themed soap. The label is a top-down view of a mug full of coffee, with the little bubbles around the edge. Need I say more?

Challenge: I've met hugbckt on more than one occasion, and he's an all around excellent person. He somehow seems to be without flaws, but I'm sure if you asked him he'd tell you all of his problems. Does he even shave, though?

I was really torn about using this today. I’ve long said this is the nicest smelling unscented soap ever. But it’s also apparently tea scented. I don’t get the tea scent, but that doesn’t really matter since it says it on the webpage and that means the judges need to accept it.

Take that, suckers!

Now I gotta say something nice about /u/hugbckt. Well, he gave me this bottle of aftershave for free. That was pretty damn nice. I’ve met him twice and he’s actually nicer than he comes across online, which seems impossible but is true. He’s been a great help during the LG planning, and was instrumental in many of the changes we see this year. We’re lucky to have him!

October 1st, 2026: International Coffee Day

  • Brush: Summer Break Soaps - Unbleached Zenith 28mm Boar
  • Razor: RazoRock Lupo DLC
  • Blade: Personna Platinum Chrome (3)
  • Lather: Noble Otter - Thé Noir et Vanille - Soap
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Santa Noir - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Oleo & Co. - Facial Toner - Toner
  • Fragrance: Le Labo - Thé Matcha 26 - EdP

Theme justification - it's a black tea scent, it's in the name.

Relevant Post Shave or Frag - Thé Matcha 26 is a matcha-forward fragrance.

Daily challenge - u/hugbckt is a kind, generous, and consistently positive member of the community. We're lucky to have him. Though I will take the djudicial suggestion and call him a coward for not defending his title this year. I guess we'll never know if he could have beaten u/Priusaurus's record after all.

$FOF - I've been looking forward to this combination. The earthy black tea in TNeV was a pleasant anchor to the initial jasmine and currant from Santa Noir. After some time on my skin the sandalwood and, for lack of a better way to put it, sense of evergreen really shines through.

Thé Matcha nicely grounded things. It's a close-sitting fragrance that gives me more vetiver and cedar than matcha, but it pulls the combination into a wonderfully calm and contemplative place. A real sense of welcome solitude.

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

This was a test shave of a razor that was given to me to hone at the Mid-Ohio Meetup by u/Impressive_Donut114. The original condition of the edge was quite iffy, but the steel behind the damaged part turned out to be great. This is a great shaver.

I was in the mood for a Thé Noir et Vanille Thursday anyway, but today is day 1 of the Lather Games and I happened to satisfy the theme of the day. I'm definitely one of those for whom June is a better month, but I hope to drop into the LG thread on occasion.

I thought u/AdWorried2804 did a nice LG writeup for this year but was amused by this, "Just please don't be long winded and make any of us read a 6,000 word essay on the history of sandalwood." I know that Mr. Worried is somewhat challenged for youth, and let's face it, old people like to complain. But "when the going gets weird, the weird turn pro". Where old folks make complaining an art form is in a rant. We can take a topic that virtually nobody cares about and whine about it endlessly. I can do this, being even more challenged than Mr. Worried. I could do it every day just to be annoying. But I won't. Just can't summon the energy these days 🫤.

Oh, u/hugbckt. Great guy. I had a chance to meet him in person at the Northeast Meetup last month. He took care of arranging for our meeting place and handled those details with a lot of grace. I was surprised to learn that his real name is Hug Bucket.
