Canada is right next door to a US military that is less professional, less knowledgeable, more impulsive than ever before. The World should not take US Secretary of War's Hegseth purge lightly.

Yes, there's a time I would probably have this post taken down as some may take the view that news about the US military at face value isn't about Canada. But, I suggest that this is such a narrow take of a connected world.

So I ask does this news of a purge of the US military present a plot flag for a future destabilizing event, as depicted in the fictional Handmaid's Tale with a massacre of US protesters, and should the world not be adjusting to this new US posture?

A purge involves all of the knock on effects anyone can expect: [1] a rejection of safeguards and cultural morays, [2] a deterioration of the independence of the military, [3] a loss of institutional knowledge to a system - like many militaries - that is already known to have systemic struggles with discrimination, misogyny, bigotry, sexual violence, and corruption, [4] a brain drain of specialized personnel with strategic expertise to the private sector or other countries.

As the US-Israel-Iran war drags on, what should be clear to the World is no one is safer.
