Blocking an instance will only block seeing communities/posts from that instance. Blocking users is done on the individual level.

I have lemmy.today blocked and not this individual.

It feels like we are already getting close to the limit of what people can cope with in terms of the complexity of blocking options. If people needed to also decide whether to apply each block to everything, only posts or only comments we'd be 3x the complexity...

On lemmy and .world instances it only blocks the posts and communities and leaves comments from the users.

Yes for some reason the lemmy.ml devs are not keen on making Lemmy block very effectively.

Their bans work great though.
