In 30 days it'll be the first of November (I think) and it'll be time to rock around the clock once more.

Who has their story ready? Plotted? Or just an idea?

Or are you going to freestyle it come the day?

Wow, no comments in 23 days makes me sad.

I plan to work on a Lovecraftian idea I came up with years ago, about a guy whose dead uncle leaves him an old suitcase. It contains rulebooks for a game very much like Dungeons & Dragons - but they were published in the 1920s, decades before D&D. The hero plays D&D but has never heard of the older game. He finds no references to it online, except that the publisher is no longer in business. Along with the books are his uncle's handwritten notes that mention names of students - presumably friends he played with - mostly from wealthy and influential families of the day. Making a trip to the uncle's old college, he finds a few pieces of evidence that the game did exist and had a small following, concentrated among children of elites. As he delves more into these scant clues, he realizes he's being watched by people who want the game to stay forgotten.

The story should create a sense that the game was probably a form of networking for young elites, but also that it might have involved dabbling in magic or evil - recalling mainstream 1980s paranoia about D&D. Whoever is watching the hero could be protecting a secret society of elites, the knowledge that real magic exists, or something else.
