So glad I did my hardware purchases for the next 5 years before this happened. Could use a new video card though, ugh

Isn't the new Chinese RAM producer going to undercut the big 3? Or will they just become the big 4?

My favorite part of this is when this whole thing shits the bed and prices drop, all will be forgiven and folks will go back to buying.

Won't they just sell out too? My bet is "Big 4."

Sell out or sell to. Unless the Chinese one over produces to such a degree that it will undercut the others, it won't have much impact.

Looking at local prices, laptops are already going up, even on existing stock, while new releases tend to get postponed - new AMD/Nvdia GPUs, Medusa Halo. Nvidia RTX Spark laptops are launching next week, and prices are expected to be even higher than initial plans (+ DGX Spark price hikes).

Probably not.

I envy your resolve, I probably won't be able to boycott RAM manufacturers forever

Besides, I think that consumers boycotting them would not make much of an issue, otherwise they would probably not screw us over so hard in the first place

They've said they will be selling at market value. Capitalist China is not going to be your savior.

Product manufacturer says their product will be in a short supply well into the future while those products are priced sky high so there’s no point in waiting for things to get normal.

Buy now, no time to think! You’re missing out on AI revolution!

More sellers means smaller pieces of the pie for everybody - if supply reaches demand. CXMT will have to distinguish themselves somehow in the market. If it's just virtue of being able to provide chips to those who couldn't get any, then yes, the price doesn't have to drop. But how many data-centers can they build and for how long?

Endless growth doesn't exist.

They're buying out "years" of future capacity. Years. The pie isn't shrinking much. When the bubble pops things will improve. Not a moment before.
