Are Hybrids that popular that they would cause any real shift in the market?

$4.43 a gallon in September, according to AAA, compared with $3.20 a year earlier.

Holy shit did this idiot fuck the whole world. I knew it was bad but never actually looked up the numbers. America should really be broken up into 2+ different countries.

GM, Ford Motor and Stellantis — also called the Detroit Three — could see their combined market share dip to around 36% in the quarter

Why are they pretending that a company from the Netherlands is a US auto maker?

That's a nicely padded number. Since we're seeing how surveillance cameras got really popular; we're about to see how popular having that in cars is going to be.

If you want another holy shit moment, go look at what's happened to the price of diesel -- which is rather important for shipping basically everything...

We hit a rather disturbing milestone in California last month: https://fortune.com/2026/09/10/9-999-maxed-out-california-diesel-prices-overwhelm-pump-displays/ -- and we hit the highest recorded average price nationally of $6.5276/gallon about a week ago according to this source.

Shit is absolutely fucked right now.

When they bought out one of the former big three (Chrysler) they kinda got included as a de facto member.

I have a constant desire to buy a 500 gallon tank and fill it with diesel to help with the inevitable (I'm expecting) no fuel signs at the pump.

I don’t think they care. I think at this point they just want to sell high margin SUVs and trucks, and to leave the other market segments to other manufacturers. Ford doesn’t even sell sedans in the US anymore. They’ve decided cars like hybrid sedans and econoboxes don’t make them enough money.

Does that mean Fiat, Maserati, and Alfa Romeo are also US brands now too? They could have included Tesla instead of Stellantis since Tesla actually is a US company (along with Ford and GM as the only remaining US brands). The article seems pretty nonsensical because of this.

Tesla didn’t get its start in Detroit. It said the “Detroit Three”, which was Ford, GM and Chrysler. Chrysler is owned by Stellantis now. So it made since to mention the parent company.

I get that, but the article is about US manufacturers and their sales numbers not sales of companies that once had a footprint in Detroit historically.

I'm sure these companies want to pretend like they're still 'American owned' but they aren't and we shouldn't entertain their fantasies. I mean if the why not include Toyota in that definition considering they're built with the most US labor and US parts, even more so than companies like Ford and GM on average, since the parent company location doesn't matter?

I listed prices in USD per gallon -- converting: 2.35 euros per liter (the alarming price showing up in California -- a state where we literally pump oil out of the ground) seems low to you?!

by my calculation and a few online converters too it's more like 1.3 to 1.5 euros per liter and yes it's low, ours is around 2.4 euros last time I saw.
