Does it contain fermented poison shark? Does it?

Reality is stranger than fiction. When you're starving, a lot becomes feasible.

Also, it looks like most if not all recipes are at least 100 years old. Are there any from the 3rd millenium? I want to read about people posting weird shit to recipe sites.

It's a clickbaity website with lots of 3rd party scripts for that sweet Google money. That shit's existed for far longer than artificial unintelligence writing code.

You could be right of course.

Some signs:

  • slightly weird phrasing some places.
  • em-dashes

But it is not glaringly obvious.

Em-dashes may simply be explained by the use of lexical correction tools, which also loves weird typographic like thoses.

Same for weird phrasing, may be the result of anti-repetition rules.

I personally uses Grammalecte, which is specifically tailored for the French language, and when I ask it to review a text, he often does those corrections if I do not first disable those rules.

And that tools do not uses IA, it is 100% programmatic.

Given these are all recipes from the 18 and 1900s pre-ww2 I find this premise is a bit distasteful.

It was a different world back then.

Kids nowadays would scoff at the fact my mum loves beef tongue or that I love liver and onions. You eat what you can get and you can afford. The people who wrote these recipes a century ago were merely documenting their survival and the foods at the time.

What stood out to me more was just the design of the website. A human could have made it of course, but there's a lot of little design things you pretty much always see in LLM-generated websites.

I did do some more searching before I posted that comment though. What I found way more damning, is what you see when clicking through to the parent company or something (they're not actually companies afaict, not sure what they are instead).

The website of this Lazarus Library also heavily smells like AI slop to me. Searching the parent company listed on that website leads to a trademark for "PhotoOpAI".
These are parts of their statements found here:

Downloadable computer software using artificial intelligence (AI) for providing information (...) based upon a photo of the item or object

Providing on-line non-downloadable software using artificial intelligence (AI) for use in taking photos of items and objects and providing information

So they're definitely deep in the AI hole.

You didn't even read it. Most of these contain literal poisons

it is slop. the inspiration might be real but the sites are generated trash.

i did the same thing. scroll down. project of 'lazarus library'. quick web search says they are 'PhotoOpAI' out of austin tx. another search says they have numerous similar sites pulling text from old books and wrapping it around clicks and ads. i quit digging when i saw they all used the same identifying tags when calling their ad/tracking scripts
