I worked at a McD's when I was 18-19yo, and that experience is sort of stamped in my brain. After all my mom's cooking (she meant well) over the years, I must admit that I also kinda gorged XD, when there. In later years, I occasionally ate some McD's, but I also began to see what my mom was aiming for-- which kinda made obvious that McD's is just crap food, and only meant to be an occasional treat, assuming you value your health.

It's been years now, but I understand that a Big Mac is now US$6 or so? That actually sounds pretty reasonable to me, given our shit economy. But yeah, trying to feed a family on that stuff does kinda sound like a disaster. :S

I feel like I ate way more food as a teen than I do now.

School, extracurriculars, growing, and faster metabolism will do that.
