Someone who was 18-25 in 1976 is 68-75 now. I'm not sure how many of them are here in the Fediverse, but I guess if I'm here, who was born around that time, maybe there's a couple of them lurking.

I was an 80s metal/punk. I have mighty respect for those 70s razor-blade and rusty safety-pin punks; they paved the way for gezzers like me.

My punk mantra, still relevant today: "see a nazi, punch a nazi".

Someone commented about the same thing in the hippies thread. Some hippies also responded there, so the old folks also are on lemmy.

Yeah, older people who still learned the new technology seem to be massively overrepresented on the fediverse. I guess, it itself is a new technology you have to learn.

I'm that age, but I wasn't Punk. I remember the first time I saw it, before it had really hit America in a big way. Most people don't remember that in its early years, SNL was only on 3 nights a month, and the 4th Saturday they would show some weird documentary or something. It was always very disappointing.

Except once, and it happened to be a time when a lot of family was visiting, maybe Thanksgiving or something, and we were all jazzed to watch SNL, and this documentary about this new music came on, and I, and my entire family, got a crash course in Punk.

That caused a lot of discussion, that's for sure. I was the only musician in the room, but I was about to go to college to be a Music History major, and Punk wasn't my wheelhouse, but I still respected it as a genre. I've always loved all music, I just expect it to be authentic and artistic, and Punk was that, if nothing else.

Later it morphed into New Wave, just as I was hitting my 20s, and I got DEEP into the New Wave music scene. I knew this was going to be a bright flash in the Music History Timeline, and I wanted to experience it in its glory. Me and my friends all worked in record stores or were musicians, so we had access to a lot of records, and a lot of tickets, so we saw most of the big New Wave era artists in concert, and a lot of the smaller ones. We were going to at least one show a week, and often 2 or 3.

If we weren't at a show, we usually camped at my apartment, to listen to every new artist that was coming out at that time. We were all able to get promo copies of the latest albums from our jobs, so we heard everything, often before it even came out, and lots of stuff that NEVER hit the radio. So we'd sit around, passing the bong and listening to album after album of the latest New Wave bands. Or watch MTV. At midnight, we'd watch two Twilight Zone episodes, then everyone would go home.

We had a BLAST! So much fun.

Great anecdote, Thanks for sharing!

It's just a new way to bang rocks together. Not fundamentally different.

Yup, it should be fine. And yet, it's a few clicks and concepts too many for most people.
