I first suspected it might be AI or photoshop, but there are people selling vintage newspaper versions of the ad on ebay, so I don't think it is. If that turns out to be wrong I'll remove this post. The brand traded under this name from 1880 to 2004 and is now owned by Campbell.

The company's 1950s ads feel a bit off. That's not just me, right? 1956:

Franco-American

Here's one of their 1800s ads, which doesn't give me spaghetti-cult vibes. It seems more like the style a lot of ads were in the 1800s.

Franco-American was one of Campbell’s earliest acquisitions. It’s been a Campbell’s brand for over a century.

It never occurred to me to google it but there is a NOFX song called Franco Unamerican and I never realized it probably had to do with a reference to this brand. Never heard of it before now. TIL

I went to school with a Campbell kid back in the 80s. He looked just like the first painting in this post. He was a fuck face shitbag even then.

Are those hot dogs setting on the table?

They don't appear to be cooked or even warmed up.

Looks like a breadstick to me. They were always on the table when we had "Italian" as a kid in the Midwest.

That makes much more sense, thanks.

Personally, I'm going to believe that he dips raw hot dogs in his canned spaghetti.

Many vintage adverts, photos, look creepy. I don't doubt that some of what looks normal now will probably look creepy in the future as well.

I was more concerned with the raw meat on the table without a napkin.

A warm, moist, high protein place to grow whatever microbe is living in the bare wood tabletop.

Only the middle one seems weird? I mean it's vintage marketing art. This is what it looked like.

Breadsticks are such bullshit. It's an unsalted long cracker that has no purpose.
