This is insult to leeches. Leeches actually play an important role in their environment. Landlords, on the other hand, provide no beneficial role.

Leeches provide a benefit only if tbey are eaten.

The same is true of landlords.

The leech will ease your grievous throat most readily.

Anecdotal, sure, but each time I had a house of my own (3), I made it a point to help new families of marginalized communities by preferring to rent to them vs the privileged applicants, and for below market. My favorite contractor was their direct contact, and I maintained a 30x20 veggie garden out front for public enjoyment (mostly the household, but everyone was welcome), etc.

That said, I've only recently overcome houselessness for the second time in my life (never an addict, no legal troubles, et al, so be kind in your reflex), and have known real real life between those and beyond.

I'm one of you as y'all are one of me. We're all getting fucked by bigger leeches and they're pushing (y)our narrative.

Ask yourself: who profits from this perspective? 🥲

Some of the enzymes in leech saliva are beneficial. I don't think anyone's ever benefited from a landlord spitting on them ..

Leeches also still play a role in medical treatments, from Wikipedia:

Medicinal leech therapy (also referred to as Hirudotherapy or Hirudin therapy) made an international comeback in the 1970s in microsurgery,[16][17][18] used to stimulate circulation in tissues threatened by postoperative venous congestion,[16][19] particularly in finger reattachment and reconstructive surgery of the ear, nose, lip, and eyelid.[17][20] Other clinical applications of medicinal leech therapy include varicose veins, muscle cramps, thrombophlebitis, and osteoarthritis, among many varied conditions.[21] The therapeutic effect is not from the small amount of blood taken in the meal, but from the continued and steady bleeding from the wound left after the leech has detached, as well as the anesthetizing, anti-inflammatory, and vasodilating properties of the secreted leech saliva.[5] The most common complication from leech treatment is prolonged bleeding, which can easily be treated, but more serious allergic reactions and bacterial infections may also occur.[5] Leech therapy was classified by the US Food and Drug Administration as a medical device in 2004.[22]

Because of the minuscule amounts of hirudinpresent in leeches, it is impractical to harvest the substance for widespread medical use. Hirudin (and related substances) are synthesized using recombinant techniques. Devices called "mechanical leeches" that dispense heparin and perform the same function as medicinal leeches have been developed, but they are not yet commercially available.[23][24][25][26]

Has there been a study on landlord enzymes?

We probably need to put some landlords in a big tank and extract their enzymes to test. It might be easier to just blend them up and then use a centrifuge to separate out the enzymes. Arguably a powerful enough centrifuge will negate the need for the blender.

This sounds like a modest proposal

You have to remember there's a lot of teenagers on here. Not a whole lot of people who know how to fix a leaky sink.

Individual landlords are not the problem here (by and large, some are scum bags still) it's big companies/slumlords with a bunch of property only concerned with profit.

Then, use the term for them? Doing otherwise is sloppy, if not outright disingenuous. You just said "big companies/slumlords", so it's not that hard. 🤷🏼‍♂️

You can't possibly think how you behaved is even close to the norm. In fact, I think most landlords would mock you and call you an idiot for leaving money on the table.

Yes, corporate landlords are a much worse problem, and yes, sometimes individual landlords can be ok.

Doesn't change anything, the entire system is fucked.

I'm sorry that you're in a place in your life that engenders such bitterness and saps your hope, fellow poor, but that's simply not the case. In fact, around that time I not only had neighbors who did the same, but was also very active in a global community that aimed to bring similar to the world around us.

So no, your inner imaginary hell did not exist for me, and I strongly urge you to cut out that cancerous mindset before it eats even more of you away. 🙇🏼‍♂️

Yeah whatever you have to tell yourself. You're one of the "good ones."

It's ok because you didn't profit that much

I'm 26 and a leaky sink is the least of my problems. I've been fixing them in every apt for the last 10 years

How old aren't you?

I can tell by the tone that this was meant to be snarky, but I can't figure out for the life of me how exactly?

Would you like me to list for you all of the ages I'm not?
