The European Parliament is investigating French-Palestinian MEP Rima Hassan after she removed an Israeli flag from an exhibition marking the third anniversary of the Hamas-led 7 October 2023 attacks, with the lawmaker accusing Parliament of applying a double standard to Israel as it wages its genocidal war on Gaza.
A European Parliament spokesperson confirmed the investigation to The New Arab, following calls from pro-Israel lawmakers for Hassan to be sanctioned.
Hassan has defended her protest, confirming that she deliberately removed the Israeli flag while disputing claims that she vandalised the exhibition. Her office said neither the Israeli nor European Union flag was damaged.
