I've been saying it for a while now, but I think the techies going nuts over AI and automation are shooting themselves in the foot. By producing so much software so quickly, they're doing the same thing AI did to art. They're devaluing it. |

I think it would be hilarious to see this open source project, with AI, be what finally brings a decent image editor to Linux and crushes adobe. |

Well. Vibecoded software is kind of a different duck, because it’s so unstable and ends up being a completely unmaintainable replacement/alternative. I’d say it’s more “shit” than even diffusion-made media. It’s similar in that it’s a short-term fix. You use diffusion when you want something right now, and cheap, everything else be damned, and vibecoding is the same. This “impulse coding” also makes the projects quite ephemeral. …But LLM coding is also a spectrum. There is a healthy amount of LLM automation that absolutely helps small projects or solo devs, those that are already doing a great job without them. Clearly vibe coded projects like this aren’t healthy, but there are other instances where it’s actually a useful tool. |

I don't think so. I just see another buggy, non-updating piece of garbage. GIMP is the answer for Photoshop on Linux. And always will be. |

Actually, nobody's gonna use it at all. If it's AI-generated, then it's absolutely a duplicate of Photoshop. After a while, all updates will be stopped. |

Trust me, as much shit as I talk about AI, I still use it even for personal things and see that there's a real technology here that will stick around. It's just hard to have a real conversation about that when it's muddied with "omg we let it loose to hack everything and it did", and "don't worry if it destroys the planet, Q4 will be great", and "don't worry if q4 is terrible and we're losing billions, because we might make AGI". Not only that but they shoved it into everything and started producing as much slop as possible, while they convinced seemingly every CEO in the world they have to produce slop too. I see engineers who hate their lives now, who are being told to automate every aspect of their job until they're no longer required, and they don't care about what they make anymore because they feel so disconnected from their code. We could have had a rational boost with this technology as a cool coding assistant, but instead we got whatever the fuck this blood sacrifice economy is. Meanwhile, some companies are shocked that no one wants to read their 100 new ai generated blog posts. |

I do kind of wonder if Adobe will actually be able to shut it down. Photopea is pretty much a clone of Photoshop and its been going strong for years now, even charging money to remove ads. |

But photopea looks like a web based photo editor and completely free to use. Don't know why adobe did nothing about it. Maybe not that popular enough for adobe to notice. |
