In North America, a CV with a photo on it is instantly binned, as it opens up the company to charges of racial or sexual discrimination if the applicant isn’t chosen.

Seriously - add a photo of yourself to your CV if you want a 100% rejection rate anywhere in America or Canada.

They should staple a little sandwich bag of cookies to the resume with a sticky note that says “accept”.

Nowadays we have racist LLMs automating discrimination at an industrial scale by rejecting applications based on age, gender, and perceived ethnicity (via surname)

I find cover letters and resumes to be useless. Really a waste of everyone's time like the whole hiring process.

I only had to deal with this when I worked as a government contractor. Sometimes it went like "I did so and so and these kind of tasks" OK, I don't really care. You're going to be doing postal service on base. "I graduated from here with a masters" I don't give a shit. "These are my references" I didn't ask, but thanks for wasting my time, I'm not calling them, I'm going to run a background check on you anyway.

All I cared about is if your S/TS clearance was still valid and that you're not annoying. Bonus points if asked why do you want to work here and the answer is money, though you might get some extra attention from the FSO for a while.

I've been hiring engineers to program robots and the resume is perfect for checking if they know how. I just check a few things during the interview to make sure they didn't exaggerate too much.

Cover letters are worthless though. Everybody says they'd be a great fit and want the job even if they're desperate. I just need to know what they can do.

Should have a QR code where you charge$1 to see the rest. Vastly overstate your qualifications in the top half and spam every workplace you can.

Then just sit back, and wait to get rich.

If this was the solution to running out of printer ink, I applaud it even harder.

Yeah I don't want to know why you want to work here. It sounds mean until you have to read, I didn't, a bunch of them. Overall if it makes sense and doesn't sound too exaggerated then it's probably good enough. The references thing is annoying as well. Like I have really good references but are you going to download signal and contact people overseas? Lol
